Hi, I’m Nicole Borens — a Chicago-based, award-winning graphic designer with expertise in email development. I work with B2Bs, B2Cs, advertising agencies, and non-profits across a variety of projects, platforms, and media.
With over a decade of experience working contract and freelance roles, I have designed for brands including LinkedIn, Harvard, PGA Tour, The Field Museum, and UNICEF, and have been featured on sites like Medium and Design Wizard. I created and ran the Etsy store, Dungeons and Decals, making 1,000+ unique sales within the first year of online while maintaining a 5-star rating. I recently began repurposing the D&D artwork for Society6.
My daily work consists of 50% email development, and 50% graphic design — web ads, landing pages, hero images, UI (user interfaces). For graphics, mostly I use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign — my current favorite programs are Adobe XD and Sketch. For email development I use Sublime Text, Litmus/Email On Acid, and I’m skilled in four of the most popular ESPs (email service providers), including MailChimp, Pardot, Marketo, and Eloqua. Additionally, I’m certified in Email Marketing from HubSpot.
Coding pixel-perfect email templates, deploying campaigns, and setting up automation — you can rely on me for everything about email. In addition to having created hundreds of graphic deliverables, my email templates render across all email clients, helping the brands I work with get the best ROI, achieve their goals, scale their operations, giving them a competitive edge.
My design philosophy is less is more — yes to more white space! I like to travel the world, eat at restaurants I can’t afford, and have the fanciest cheap home you’ll ever see — I live and breathe design. I approach work and play with curiosity and experimentation, using what I learn to create meaningful digital designs and products that connect with people, just like you.
In my spare time, I take on home improvement projects and play with my dog, Leo.
